The first few lines I try to use unusual imagery to describe a daffodil in a glass vase. The song then developed into a song about a cheating man being forgiven for his unfaithful behaviour by buying flowers for his wife or girlfriend. I was listening to Jack White’s flirtations with rap which gave me the idea for the rhythmic vocal delivery.
lyrics
5. Making Amends
Verse 1
When a sun shaped smile from a long slender neck of a crocodile.
A lion’s lost his head and the mane remains.
Held in melted sands time ticks down.
Hear the lies, a good man?
Well he's making amends.
Verse 2
Then the pen writes love on the flat card hanging dead from a flower bud.
A tear forms when read heartbeat, beat, beats.
Dripping down tears fall to the ground.
Telling truths, he fooled around.
Well he's making amends.
Bridge
But she loves bunch of flowers and you know it’s not ok.
Its not even a start.
For your broken sweet heart.
On a week day.
You do it anyway.
He’s playing away
Verse 3
And his Money buys take back, thumb down, thorn bled, gift wrapped.
Sofa bed, forgive forget.
Washing whites, white sheets, rinse repeat.
Next time, he won’t get caught he’ll be less indiscreet.
Well that’s making amends?
Outro
For when you blame yourself, that’s making amends.
For when you blame yourself, that’s making amends.
For when you blame yourself, that’s making amends.
For when you blame yourself, that’s making amends.
Amends, amends, amends, amends, amends.
